Grilled Octopus Italiano

Yield: 4 servings

Total Time: 1 hour and 40 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 3 pounds cleaned Wholey's Market octopus
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • ¼ cup whole peppercorns
  • 2 lemons
  • Additional lemon wedges for serving (optional)
  • 1 wine cork
  • 2 garlic cloves, peeled
  • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil

Directions:

  1. In a large pot, place the octopus, wine, peppercorns, half of a lemon, cork, and garlic.
  2. Cover all ingredients with water by one inch and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Reduce to a simmer and cook octopus until it’s tender when pierced with a sharp knife.
  4. Drain, allow the octopus to come to room temperature.
  5. Light your grill or chimney full of charcoal. Spread charcoal and ash evenly over coal grate.
  6. Toss the octopus with ¼ cup of olive oil and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Place the octopus on the grill and cook for a few minutes on both sides until browned.
  8. Cut the octopus tentacles, place on a platter, and drizzle with remaining olive oil, lemon juice, and seasonings. Serve immediately or at room temperature with lemon wedges, and enjoy!
